Don's Story
|
Firstly I found myself in need of some serious help, partly through my own fault and partly due to circumstance. Originally, I had the perception that I could manage on my own living from day to day, coping. That was far from the truth.
I needed a place to take stock and begin to rebuild the foundations of a life. The past few years for me have been a hectic blur, homeless and without direction, I found myself lost.
Friends First gave me the support and more importantly, understanding that I sorely needed. For the first time I had access to means of assistance that the staff in the house had to offer.
In everything that you do, you get more if you become proactive and the house forms a big basis in that. The staff encourage you to confront your fears and problems, something I found extremely difficult, but in my view essential.
Using the various resources at the disposal of the house makes the transition into independent living more achievable
Sometimes people need a little helping hand, to be guided back into society. And the patient willingness of the friends at the house helps no end. There is an atmosphere of genuine care that can be lacking in the world in general. And it’s this which I find most helpful.
