Principles for Living Together

PrinciplesMainPic

It is important that all residents and staff feel safe whilst living and working at the house. Residents in the house have these responsibilities:

  • To respect one another, staff team, residents and visitors, and to help one another with the problems we face
  • To engage in keyworking and the Life Skills Programme fully and regularly according to the support plans agreed with you
  • To live free of drugs and ensure that no illegal drugs are brought into the house. To keep the house free of alcohol and not to return to the house drunk
  • To pay bills promptly and keep to any financial agreements
  • To listen to each other views and have an input into how the house is run by regular attendance at residents meetings
  • To only smoke in your own room or outside the house but not in the communal areas
  • To respect that the office is the teams work area and the confidential nature of the material held there
  • To build friendships and a support network but not to begin any sexual relationships with other residents
  • To respect peoples right to privacy and safety
  • Bedrooms are off limits to residents of the opposite sex
  • To be responsible for the visitors you invite into the house and ensure that they abide by these principles
  • Violence or threatening behaviour is unacceptable and is likely to result in a written warning or eviction, as is any breach of the licence agreement

“Sometimes people need a little helping hand, to be guided back into society. And the patient willingness of the friends at the house helps no end. There is an atmosphere of genuine care that can be lacking in the world in general. And it’s this which I find most helpful.”
