Sacred Mums – 1 Corinthians 7:14
We often neglect the subject of motherhood, but it is a relevant topic to all of us – at the very least, we were all born of a mother. It is also an incredibly important and significant role within the church, and should be viewed as such. It is means whereby Jesus can be taken into the home and the family, even if the mum is the only Christian in that place (which is mainly who the apostle Paul is addressing in this verse). Mums can bring godly influence.
How can a loving God allow natural disasters like Haiti to happen?
In recent weeks we have seen the utter devastation that has come about in Haiti with nearly 230,000 people having been estimated to have died as a result of an earthquake. When you consider the million people who have been left homeless and destitute as well, it causes deep emotion and a very real sense [...]
Men and Women of Honour: Tony and Claire Coggan
Tony and Claire Coggan: A Family that loves Jesus.. Radically Tony: I became a Christian in 1972. Before I allowed God to take control of my life, I would have said that I was a conservative, God fearing, hardworking person but who could always do better! I thought that with more effort and more self-discipline I would [...]

Sport

Ah, the summer sound of willow on leather...

We choose to be healthy in body, mind and spirit

As a church we have formed several teams to compete locally in sports activities, and have other opportunities to play games among ourselves as well.

The football team has been successful over the years, as has the cricket team, and both are constantly seeking new players to strengthen the squad.  We choose to play with fairness and set a good example in sportsmanship to other teams.

CCK Football

Joyful celebrations! They may look like a mixed bag of peppermint humbugs, but this lot won a cup last season

We choose to play fair, but we still compete

Under previous player-manager Jay Patel the CCK football team have discovered considerable success in previous seasons. But the new season has provided fresh challenges. If you are interested in being scouted or in joining the team, contact the church office for details.

The CCK Football Team is sponsored by Tamplins, to whom the players are grateful for financial support. The more senior members of the team are also very grateful for the relief provided by Tiger Balm Embrocation.

Faith on the field of play

'When I gave my life to Jesus in 1996,' writes Mike Melville-Reed, 'I was playing regularly for a football team in Brighton. But I found it tough being the only Christian in this side and I often slipped back into my old ways.

'I was about to hang up my boots when my very supportive and understanding wife Victoria persuaded me to play another season, this time for CCK.

'The team were very welcoming, but the thing that really made an impression on me was the fact we prayed before every match, declaring our faith in public. If we did argue with a decision or blow kisses at the opposition’s spectators, someone was always there to remind you of the reason you were playing.

'It’s quite a responsibility playing for this team but it is an enjoyable experience and one I wish I’d done years ago. One thing for sure: whatever our results, CCK has a football team of which it can be proud.
